General Household Waste Information
Rother District Council has contracted its waste collection and recycling services to Serco Ltd. Find out more information about this service on the Rother Council website.
Note that there are special arrangements in place for some household waste (please see below).
Kitchen Waste
BALI hopes that you will compost as much kitchen waste and green waste as possible.
What you CAN compost:
- fruit and vegetable peelings and scraps
- tea bags and coffee grounds,
- crushed egg shells,
- grass cuttings, prunings and leaves
- small amounts of shredded paper and soft cardboard, like egg boxes
- animal hair
- vacuum dust (only from woollen carpets)
What you CANNOT compost:
- cat or dog excrement
- meat, cheese or fish
- cooked meals
- disposable nappies
- shiny card
- hard objects

Garden Waste:
If you are unable to compost some or all of your garden waste, then it can be collected by the Council's waste contractor, provided that it is contained in a special garden waste collection sack. These sacks are available for purchase from Rother District Council's Community Help and Advice Points situated in:

Domestic Clinical Waste:
Clinical waste (not incontinence pads) is collected and disposed of separately to household waste. Arrangements can be made to use this service by contacting 01424 787999. Sharps, needles, etc., will also be collected by this service provided they are in approved containers. The Council does not supply these.
Bulky Waste:
Rother Council will collect large or bulky items for a charge, by arrangement. Rother classes bulky items as "Generally..white goods and furniture but... more precisely defined as an item which:
- exceeds 25 kg in weight
- will not fit in a cylindrical container 750 mm in diameter and 1 metre in length"
