Effects of Landfill

Landfill Effects: Landfill Affects You!

Some of the reasons to stop the landfill proposal for the Ashdown Brickworks site.

This was the dramatic scene one lunchtime in August 2006 as a 12 wheel truck turned over on a major road (in Little Common) and hurled most of its 44 tonnes of waste into a pretty front garden.

Righting the lorry took nearly three hours, during which time the road was closed, and clearing up the rubbish was not completed until nearly 10pm that day.

We wish we could be more positive about a landfill site, but there is nothing to commend such a plan.

It is not about "not in my backyard". We are saying "not in anyone's back yard". Our recycling and bio-degradable policy is abysmal and regarded as one of the most regressive in Europe. Putting rubbish in the ground will be banned after 2020 - so let's fight now to stop refuse from the whole of Sussex being sent to our lovely town.
